The Eleven Moon Moods of Woman
In all living species, it is the female that is most affected by the waxing and waning of the moon, by its introvert and extrovert phases that lead our pro-creativity to regenerate - it affects our hormonal phases and our moods.
Yoga teaches that woman has 11 lunar centres, each activating for 2.5 days during each 27.5-day cycle. The sequence is unique for each woman, but remains constant from puberty to the day we pass on (intense emotional shock can shift the sequence, so if you have experienced such, check again).
A male has one Moon Mood centre - on the chin. This explains a man's relative emotional stability (like a sun) and why many men like to grown beards (to insulate and buffer this sensitive spot.
The benefit of knowing
Within each woman resides goddess archetypes: Durga (slayer of demons), Hecate (wise renunciator) and Demeter (nurturing mother). The effectiveness of womanhood is dependent on how we balance our positive, negative and neutral minds. The negative mind reflects only on dangers facing YOU. The positive mind reflects overwhelmingly on what is good for YOU. The neutral mind (which is cultivated through meditation) is not pressured by emotion or commotion, and knows how to initiate action with the intent of GOOD FOR ALL. Harmony is all in the timing:
A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to harvest;
A time to kills and a time to heal;
A time to break down and a time to build up;
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
There is no good or bad; thinking makes it so - Shakespeare
By sensitising to our emotional ebb and flow, women can harness their patterns (biorhythms) to work calmly through every stage, forearmed to receive the gifts that they bear and avoid the pitfalls that challenge you. The moon cycles bestow different natural moods on you that you may apply in a helpful or conflicting way.
The 11 points are power centres, indicating the 'right time' for everything you need to do and to be. It is easy to predict or test your sequence using a pendulum or muscle testing, to record it, diarise it and start following your pattern, to become better acquainted with your ebb and flow.
Of course, it is useful for a life partner, family or close friends to learn about your Moon Moods - for instance when is the best time to plan the future together, to be romantic, to discuss shared values, or to avoid rocking the boat :)
How to know
A pendulum can be bought at any spiritual store or a market, but you can also use something at home that is dear to you - a ring or a pendant on a string! All it is, is a energy transferal mechanism between your subconscious and your muscles.
Relax in a quiet space, elbow of non-dominant hand resting on a table (or your knee, if sitting down). Hold your pendulum in your hand for a moment. Then close your raised hand in a gentle fist around the string holding the pendulum, with the thumb pressed gently on top to control its sway.
Get the feel of it by asking "show me yes" (it will swing in a straight line, side to side or front to back; or in a circle, clockwise or counter-clockwise; or elliptically): keep your eyes on the pendulum and keep breathing deeply (you'll be amazed how often people start holding their breath!) Do this a few times until you are sure. Say "stop" (out loud or internally) and do the same for "show me no". Don't move your hand or fingers consciously. Smile, have fun :)
The pendulum test can be used to choose anything from supplements to outfits to foods or difficult decisions (which is just a way of you looking "in" to see what you really want/need!) You could start playing by asking simple questions, such as "Is it sunny today?" or "Is it Saturday" or "Are you here to answer my questions?" Until you get the hang of it.
Your Sequence
The 11 moods are listed below, and here is how you determine your unique sequence:
Place your finger on the first Moon Mood and ask (silently or aloud) "Am I in this phase?" Move on until you get a "yes" swing. Then ask "Am I in Day 1?" (Remember, every phase is 2.5 days, so go Day 1, 2, 3 until you get a "yes". Then ask "Am I in a.m. (morning = 12a.m. - 12p.m.) or p.m. (afternoon = 12p.m. - 12a.m.)?" Then jot down where you are. From this, you can deduce the date and time that the other Moon Moods will start and end. Point to the next Moon Mood and ask "Is this my next phase?" Repeat the exercise until you find the next Mood. Repeat until you have jotted down the sequence of your 11 Moon Moods.
The Moon Moods
As mentioned, the effectiveness of womanhood is dependent on how we balance our positive, negative and neutral minds (the latter being your True North or best state). Thus, after every Moon Mood description follows a descriptor of how you may experience this phase in the positive or negative mind...
1. Arcline (Hairline) ... Convincing
During this phase, you have the ability to see the bigger picture: how everything fits together and where you fit in. A good time to map out your future and to conceptualise new, beautiful projects. You can think big as your aura is expanded. You have a deeper understanding of Spirit and the Universe. In short, you are at your best: centred, sensitive, authoritative, outgoing, confident and self-assured. During this phase, you are most able to be neutral and honest (closest to your truth) - you may seem somewhat detached to others. A well-functioning Arcline enables you to feel safe and protective.
Positive: You ignore the dangers and see only the benefits.
Negative: You may ferret out only the dangers, leading to feelings of loneliness (watch an inspirational movie to affirm your inner strength; embrace your inner child).
2. Eyebrows ... Spacey / Girlie
During
this phase, you can dream up projects and tune into the unseen and unheard (subconscious) best.This is not a good time for list-making or dogged slogging. It is a healing time, where you can turn inward for active dreaming. This is also a good time to turn your project over to Spirit: Let-Go-Let-God.
This phase is ruled by the 6th chakra (Third Eye / Anje), which rules the pituitary gland that controls the reproductive glands, the gonads and the ovaries in the 2nd chakra (Sacral / Swadhisthana). Where the 2nd chakra is worked out, stimulated and adjusted through creative endeavours and yoga, the pituitary gland is stimulated by way of resonance (a numbed frontal lobe can produce highly charged and creative theta waves: i.e. a dream state).
Positive: You may get lost in the dream, losing your vital sense of interconnectedness.
Negative:
You may buckle under the male societal paradigm that frowns upon inertia, judging yourself. If so, avoid making decisions and shopping, unless someone you trust can help you contain yourself!
3. Pink of Cheeks ... Cheeky / Out of Sorts
This
phase can be dangerous! You may feel wired when the mind goes out of
control: reactionary, provocative, sharp, curt, smarty-pants, emotional
and causing scenes. It is completely like per-menstrual syndrome - so if
this phase coincides with PMS, it may be extra difficult for you to
remain calm. Take time out to meditate and be silent. Too much logistical pressure, and you may just lose it :)
In the neutral mind, you can apply this energy to attract the things / people you need. It's a good time to persuade yourself to join in and initiate the things you've been meaning to do. Whatever you are dealing with, successfully correct it: running away from life, breaking up relationships, cheating or deceiving and catering to your neuroses is no way to live and not the way to happiness. Experience the Truth.
Positive: You are high-energy, full of life, enthusiastic and youthful (like a teenager!)
Negative: Obsessions and demons come out to haunt you and you could
be destructive, irrational and prone to risk-taking. Road rage and risky sexual behaviour are but two dangers to avoid...
4. Lips ... Power of Words
This phase is a superior, articulate time, where you can advance as an initiator, counsellor and leader. Your communication skills are honed - this can be good or bad, depending on your Intention, diet, spiritual path and consciousness. Instead of talking, consider asking the right questions and listening carefully. Acceptance is an important learning curve during this phase.
Positive: You may think you need to speak 'your Truth' to someone, but it is far more powerful to live your Truth! Set a noble example for others to follow...
Negative: You have the ability to destroy with your words and may feel withdrawn (unable to express yourself).
5. Earlobes... Values / Judgement
During this centre meridian phase, you are formidably capable of seeing the deep value structure of your life and intuit deep into the roots of family healing: this will help you to confirm to yourself your deepest values. Rigorously remember that your actions speak for you. Even in adverse circumstance, your enemies should recognise that you behave gracefully. This is a great time for studying / research, and to reinvent or re-align yourself!
Positive:
You will discuss what is important to you and analyse everything - you may act on your beliefs (by starting or joining a campaign) or just think about it.
Negative: You may rehash the past, see only all the right and wrong in the world, or become moralistic. Be careful not to get too judgemental with friends and family members!
6. Nape of Neck... Vulnerable / Romantic Voice
This is a soft and romantic time, with the emphasis on the 5th chakra (Throat / Visuddha), where the moon centre is luminously silver - the colour of the psychic projections of the 5th chakra. At this time, you have the most romantic tone of voice and can soothe people into a project / acceptance of an idea. Use your voice in service of your Higher Self. If you receive a gift or love from your partner at this time, you are utmost appreciative.
Positive:
You are sexy and can schmooze just about anyone!
Negative: It may be hard to speak the language of your heart and your voice may feel flat. Get your neck adjusted to unblock your feelings!
7. Lips of the Vagina... Full Circle / Waiting to Exhale
During this 1st chakra (Root / Muladhara) phase, your Moon Moods come full circle and you may either feel empty (depressed) or fulfilled. If you can, rest during this time as you will set an example for other women that it is OK to feel this way and to take some 'time out'... In neutral mind, you may feel at an impasse - a zero, twilight zone of "in-between" Ness (lost and wandering step-son of the Ness Matriarch!) But seriously, spiritually this is a very important time for you: as you cannot begin without ending, and you cannot do both at the same time!There has to be a pause (however brief), like the one before the next breath.
Positive:
You may find yourself becoming very involved with family and completion of projects - drawing those close to you nearer as witnesses to your fulfilment. Be careful not to pre-empt the completion of your task, just because you feel like this! You may still have loose ends to tie up or aspects to process upon completion - differentiate carefully between your moon cycle and reality :)
Negative: You may find yourself hit rock bottom, touching on root issues of survival and security. As a social creature, you may see this as an unacceptably quiet time... and if you have a tendency towards depression, you may succumb to the feelings at this time.
8. Clitoris... Networking & Multi-Tasking
Here is where you leap off the couch looking for the next party!!! It's a highly charged and very social phase, where the subconscious celebrates a completion of sorts. In neutral mind, you may realise that - although you started off vast and all-inclusive - you don't actually want/need all the accessories and expansion! You;re happy with only the bare necessities and need nothing else. You can be very clear during this time on what you need to do to achieve any goal, being super strategic and strategically talkative... Challenge yourself to associate with everyone and use your effervescence to get help from others where you may need it!You are the most Mensch you'll be all month :)
Positive:
You feel (and are indeed) charming, talkative, expressive, sociable and outgoing. It's a super time to network, make telephone calls, go to a meeting or make new friends. Not a good time to balance your cheque book because you are feeling way too extrovert! Also not a very good time to tune into any problem area in your life, as you'll be inclined to feel radically positive or negative.
Negative: You may feel drawn in many directions at once, or even a bit cliquish or gossipy. You may feel ruthless and absolutely ready to let go! This is indeed a good time to let go of the unnecessary - but beware the negative mind may interpret your decision as a loss or emptiness...
9. Nipples... Inspiration / Ungroundedness
During this 4th chakra (Heart / Anahata) phase, your ultimate expression of yourself is from the heart, where unconditional love could flower. In neutral mind, your boundaries are intact and you feel true love for your Infinite Self. This is a great time to entertain, to do CSI (compassionate) work, and to take care of others.
Positive:
You are at your most gracious and possibly a little overly giving. Be careful to keep your personal boundaries in place. Be careful of making business deals at this time, as you may give away too much too freely!
Negative: You may fall prey to seeing yourself as the victim, the orphan, the 'nobody-loves-me'... depending on the inner landscape of your heart.
10. Navel & Lower Back... Raw Physical Energy
In neutral mind, this is a grounding phase: you have the ability to stay centred and finish what you started with great gusto, determination and strength. This is a great time to run errands, for planning and logistics, and to bring projects to completion.
Positive:
You are ready to run with the wolves!
Negative: This may be your most unstable 2.5 days of the month, where classic paranoia may lead you to think everything/one is against you. If you have a tendency to be bitter, you may be extra-sharp at this time. Guard most ardently against negativity during this phase, as it is just too unbalancing! Being too sensitive of criticism and too 'out of tune' can be balanced by drinking green juices, selenium and doing these naval exercises to strengthen your navel centre:
Cross crawls: on all-fours, reach your opposite arm through to a lifted knee and chant "Sa Ta Na Ma" (Infinity Life Death Rebirth) - change sides; repeat sequence 30 times.
Foot taps: Sitting, one hand on the nape of your neck (at the back), lift one foot and slap it with the opposite hand while chanting Sa Ta Na Ma - change sides; repeat sequence 30 times.
3rd Eye: Standing, lift foot behind back and slap with opposite hand, with other hand straight in front of the 3rd eye (middle of forehead) while chanting Sa Ta Na Ma - change sides; repeat sequence 30 times.
11. Inner Thigh... Harness your Power
This is a very male energy phase, where your energy is a conduit for the 2nd chakra (Sacral / Swadhisthana) or female reproductive area. Importantly, this is where a woman's feelings of shame are held, so work on the 2nd chakra to get your energy flowing and so to unblock negative emotions! Doing this will increase your ability to harness your innate power, so that you can successfully complete anything you set your mind on. List-making may be high on the agenda during this phase, where it's all about ATTITUDE: learn to balance your creative potential with your body's capacity limitations for sustained success :) And remember always: what you don;t know or work with, will - in the long run - hurt you. So use it!
Positive:
You can focus in fine detail and your sense of practical creativity is finely tuned.Your strategy and planning abilities put you in expert control of whatever you are doing.
Negative: You may feel overwhelmed by the enormity of what you are attempting to achieve, rendering your planning futile because of stuck creativity... work the thighs to move your energy upward: massage those inner thighs!
Three energy sites reside in a woman's thighs (Kundalini yoga). These generate Prana (life force), feeding it through to the lower abdomen. Kundalini yoga has exercises / poses such as the Frog Pose, Bound Lotus and Breath of Fire to assist in energy flow.
This Rocking Thigh exercise has been of great benefit to me (and is assisting me in melting away dead thigh tissue and fat): standing, bend down, gripping your hands around your ankles, with your elbows nestling against the inner knee (so you are bending down into the frog position). Gently rock your backside up and down until you start feeling a burning sensation in your thighs (especially toward the back and seat areas). Start and work up at your own pace. Ideally, you should manage 30 of these squats at a time (breathing in while moving up and out while going down), with a minute stretch rest and repeat this 4-5 times mornings and evenings. Not only will this strengthen your thighs, but also reinvigorate dead cells to combat cellulite and simultaneously feed your other chakras with energy!
Of old, women were warned not to sit on cold stone floors or to swim while menstruating, and further wore knee-length bloomers: to keep warm the thigh area so that the generation and passage of energy to the ovaries and uterus could remain in harmony! Pain in the Kundalini sites of the thighs typically indicate something amiss in the ovaries and uterus, as the passage of blood and energy from the thighs to the reproductive area keeps it healthy! Cysts, polyps, endometriosis and fibroid tumours reflect an energetically cold uterus (which forms a 'blanket' of these dead/harmful tissues to keep itself warm - and to draw your attention to a problem!)
I see now!
'Suniai Antar' literally means 'Listen to What is in the Heart'.
Under stress, we breathe around 15 times a minute . When calm, our breath can slow down to 4 times a minute. The brain waves slow down and we achieve a relaxed state. Do this meditation if you are about to 'lose it':
Drink a glass of water (to relieve dehydration pressure on your kidneys). Sit, legs crossed, with your hands tucked under your armpits, shoulders pulled right up (as high as you can), chin tucked in towards the throat and collar bones (without nodding the head). Close your eyes and breathe long, slow and deeply. After 2-3 minutes, your thoughts will become distant. This is a very simple yet effective brain balancing meditation, leading you into an alert feeling of neutrality.
Now (on behalf of Horton the Elly, my Inspired self, little snoozing Leia and the doggz) on this Sunday night, I bid you a fond night's sleep and much power from today's shared knowledge!
